-> I should point out I will try to keep you identity anonymous in the -> report, though in references to the BBS and the CPN it may be obvious -> who is being referred to. With other stuff (such as the hotline -> campaign while Bristow was around) it should be quite easy, and I -> promise to do so (that was also written in on the consent form, I -> believe, and on the signed cover letter I sent you, so you can have -> my carcass if I don't come through). Anyway... NO problem.. You can use my name and the CPN name anywhere you like. It is public knowledge and I do not mind at all. I will answer these questions slowly but as honest as I can. Here goes the first bit -> (1) The CPN hotline, why did you set it up in the first place? I set up this hotline to reach a mass amount of people quickly. When I opened the line in Nov '93 I flyered like crazy all around Toronto. I was getting around 500 calls at the beginning. But it slowly died down to about 350-400 calls per message. At the time in 1993 I felt this was the best way to have my opinions heard by a large amount of people. It was cheap, ($17/month), effective and very easy to do. -> (2) Why did you set it up on Bell Mobility? Especially given the -> impossibility to trace calls (no call display) and the 30 message -> limit. I wanted to go with a large company. They would be less likely to shut me down if pressure was put on them. In late 1993 there was pressure and the Bell lawyers said I had the right to say whatever I wanted. The call display part is not a big deal to me. I do not want to have people's numbers who call, that in my mind would be an invasion of privacy -> (3) Did you have any problems with the mailbox being constantly -> (deliberately) filled with messages? If so, how do you keep the line -> open? Yes I have had a problem with that since it first opened. But when ever I get messages from anyone the hotline will call me and tell me so I can immediatly erase the offending ones thus it remains open. So the hotline will always be open if I am home. -> (4) Any problems with harassing calls? Yes I have had a big problem with this. I get about 10 death threats a week. I have quite alot of them recorded. The usual one would include lines like this "I know where you live, I am going to kill you tonight, better not go out tonight.. I'll be waiting" etc etc. It is kind of scary at first but after a while you just become used to it. -> (5) Why the other two hotlines (Euro-Link and the CCH) on the CPN as -> well? I let the others come on because I wanted different opinions to be heard. I have my own opinions on topics but they have different opinions than mine. We do not always agree but that is one of the nice things about free speech. So basically I let them come on because it made the listenership much bigger. I do mostly political messages, Euro-link does mostly political also and CCH does Christian related messages. When they both came on we estimited about 150 new callers. So it was a huge success -> (6) How do you construct your messages (such as topics chosen, avoid -> conflict with hate laws, etc)? Basically I read the newpaper or do research in the library. I find a topic I would like to talk about and an knowledgeable in. I do my research on the message then write it. It is always in the same form. Intro, Saying these are opinions, base of message, wrap up, ending. I usually try to give callers a solution on what to do about the problem. ie call your MP, MPP or whatever is appropriate. I can also back up every message I ever wrote. I keep very good records of every message on the hotline. I know when every message was put on and taken off, I have it recorded, I have all the evidence and backup information logged and photocopied and I keep almost all death threats I get on a tape. -> (7) Why was the CPN (the organisation set up)? That is, what was -> wrong with the Heritage Front? The CPN was set up as a group where many groups can come together. When all these groups are together we become an information provider. Since I have tons of information we decided to come together and distribute this information. This is both cost effictive and gets the word out quicker. The Heritage Front has had it's problems. Many people who I talk to do not like for example the Skinhead issue. They do not like the way the HF is going so they come to us. We offer a ray of hope in the information world. We are the high Tech ones and we know who to market our message via new forms of Media,, IE Electric media, (Internet, BBS, CD-ROM) -> (8) What is the CPN's relationship with the Heritage Front? Officially we have no affiliation with the Heritage Front. I used to be associated with them but left them in mid 1993 to do my own thing. Continued in next message NOTE!!: The following question do not need to be (and probably shouldn't) be answered in the first person; that is, don't admit to everything. I would appreciate, however, if you discussed openly what was/is going on without giving reference as to who specifically is doing what. (9) There has been some breaking into other hotlines in the past (and apparently in the present w/ the ARA line). Why? What information was gathered? Of what use was this information? I am not totally sure but I did also hear about this. I believe it was done to gather information on the political opponients of the Heritage Front. Most likely it was done just to bug them! (10) Have you noticed any break-ins on your line? No there has never been a break in on my phone line. I have a very long passcode and I chenged it quite regularly. (11) The ARA line had been consistently filled (until moving to a remote answering machine on a separate line). Are you aware of why this was done? I believe it is still filled up even on the new line. This is done (i think) to shut them up. They have tried similar tactics on us but did not have the pateince to do it regularly. (12) The breaking into 2 or 3 digit code answering machines, how was this done? From what I am told all you do is keep pressig numbers untill you get in. Apperently it was quite easy. (13) Whose answering machines (no specific names) would be broken into? Why? I heard the Heritage Front's and the ARA lines were broken into. It was done just to piss the others off. (14) How was/is info gathered from hotlines/answering machines verified as true? I think that Grant Bristow called to verify it. But i am not sure at all. (15) In regards to you BBS, how do people find out about your BBS? From word of mouth, BBS advertisement on other BBS's, the Internet and we also do flyers in the Toronto area. (16) Why was the BBS set up in the first place? It is an information exchange service and a freedom of speech BBS. We feel that our rights as guarenteed us in the charter of rights and freedoms are being trampled over... So we are fighting back via technology. (17) Why was a separate BBS set up from Politically Incorrect (one you were originally a co-sysop on)? Politically Incorrect was the first BBS the Canadian Patriots Network started up. I started up Digital Freedom because we offer a different things than PI does. We offer more files, more messages and also live chat. We do of course work very closley with PI. (18) Have you had any problems with a) viruses being uploaded? b) mail bombing? c) tying up of BBS line? d) attempts at breaking into accounts? e) attempts at crashing the system? No viruses, no bombs, no tying up of the line, no breaking in, and no attemps to crash the system. Even is that happened we are already ready. I back up all the files from my computer weekly and also take quite alot of security precausions to keep safe. (19) If yes to any of 18, what was the nature of th eevent(s) and how did you deal with them? N/A (20) How do you deal with the hate laws in this country? (e.g., remove messages posted by others) I have not had to remove even one message yet. The users know the laws and do not say anything which might be considered against the law. I have 1 total freedom of speech conference which users have to ask to get into called the War Zone. But even in that conference there are no law breaking messages. In the computer world most if not all of us have a good level of intelligence. We understand that hatred will not get us anywhere. I would ask you to show me where there is "hatred" on this BBS. (21) How do you get files for the BBS? Most of the files I get either come from the users or I get them from the follwoign locations. Cyberspace minutemen Stormfront FTP (National Alliance, Scriptures for America, EFF, ken McVyas stuff) or from other bbs in the Toronto area. (22) How do you determine what files are of use? If they interest me or if I think they will interest the users then I put it online. If it does not get downloaded within 3 months it gets erased to make space for other files. (23) Of what use are the discussion forums on the BBS? (e.g., networking, info sharing, socialising, etc.) The conferences are for a couple of reasons. A big one is Idea sharing of people in the Toronto area. There are some quite good debates going on in almost every conference. It is also a way to network with other likeminded organizations in the Ontario region and even across North America. Conferences and the file base join together for a very powerful and effective way to Infoshare. People come across good articles and upload them either as messages or as files. then it becomes availible to over 270 users. (24) Are there certain files you would not post, such as "coon.gif" from Cyberspace Minuteman? If the hate laws were different, would you? If so, why? If not, why? I don't think I would. I don't see how it really helps to point fun at Blacks for no reason. I don't feel that even if we did not have any hate laws that the BBS wuld be any different. The hate laws do NOT deter me from putting files on my bbs. Remember that you and every user agreed to be 'offended' by materials that may or mayt not be on this bbs. So you can't later complain that you didn't know. (this arguement was brought up again the Heritage Front when a person said why shoudl i be offended if i happen to dial the wrong number and hear your messages) (25) How do you screen up-loaded files? Every file uploaded to DF is screened for viruses and content. I have never censored a file yet. I also do not plan to. As long as there are no viruses then it goes online. (26) What do you do if someone posts an undesirable file? It may be undesirable to me but it still goes up. If no one else downloads it then it gets erased within 3 months. (27) Which of the following do you use? And why? a) FTP (which sites?) FTP.netcom.com FTP.almanac.ba.ca FTP.eff.org They are very good places to get files that i find interesting. It is also a very quick way to get the information to your computer. b) USENET --which groups do you regularly post in? why? Alt.revisionism, Alt.politics.white-power, alt.politics.nationalism.white, alt.censorship, alt.politcs, can.general, tor.general. I find that these conferences have the most amount of users that are most open to our ideas. --which groups do you just lurk in? why? None really. When i go to them I leave a few messages, like BBS adds or other stuff. --what info do you get from these groups? I get good contacts world wide and i also build up my Internet mailing list. c) e-mail This is the cheif weapon i use. I have about 400+ people on my Internet E-mail list. And it is growing at about 10 people a week at the present time. And I have been a little inactive latley. d) IRC (which channels?) Nope. It is a time waster i find. e) WWW (which sites do you frequent? why?) wwwvms.utexas.edu/~AXL/index.htlm www.kaiwan.com:80/~greg.ihr/zundel www.tezcat.com:8001/~nmonagha/arc.html www.africnat.net/~islam www.resistance.com www.stormfront.wat.com/stormfront I use these nets to network with friends in the states. In the case of the Nation of Islam one... I like to hear what the are doing. f) gopher ( " ? " ?) g) archie No I don't use these tool very much. (28) The CPN mailing list (listserv), why was it set up? It was set up to get our opinions out to a mass amount of people for the least amount of money. (29) How is the mailing list set up (software, typeof hardware server?)? It is a UNIX script integrated into a mailing list (30) How do people get on the mailing list? They just write to cpn@euphoria.com and they get autom, atically registered. (31) How many people are on it? How many people on it are friendly, hostile, or just curious? How do you know? Most if nto all are friendly.... some are curious, some really support us. We ahve about 436 right now. But probibly as i write here we are getting another subscriber. Once the Word of mouth gets around we will probibly end up with about 3000 people worldwide by the end of the year. We also just joined with some other organizations in the States and in New Zealand. Which in reality made our ideas go right now to about 1500 people. (32) Do you ever get any mailbombs? Threats? Harassment? etc? through Internet e-mail? I get about 1 death threat a day. And thats no joke. Some just say i'm dead others say they know where I live and there coming to kill me... watch out. I gets a bit nerve racking but i have become desensitized to it over time. (33) Have you heard of (no names) this being done to opponents on the Internet? If so, how was it done? Why? NO i have not. People on the Internet don't seem to be after one another like they are on the streets. We have a higher decorum on the 'net. (34) You plan on connecting your BBS to the Internet. Why? Did you have any problems getting a provider willing to give you a connection? What type of connection? Yes I do and did it. it will be done by the end of this month. The domain name will be df.org. I didn't realy have any problems at all. I want to hook the bbs up to the 'net because alot of providers in the Toronto and southern Onterio region have started to become censors. They are kicking users off and with holding mail. So we started it up to be a place where controversial people could come and get absolutley unread mail and will not be censored no matter what. (35) You are setting up a "World Wide Information Service" which you claim will reach from 2750 to 4000 people, from 8 organisations in 5 countries. What does this info service entail (hardware, software). Why is it being set up? How did you reach your estimates of the total numbers of people it will reach? How does one subscribe to this service? It is already mostly set up. It will also require no software. I send a message to 'person a, b, c, d, e, f, g' who sends it to everyone on their mailing list. So it goes pretty fast and it also lets each of us keep out own separate mailing list. Basically I have 400+ people, the ARA has around 1000 and the others each may have any where from 300 people plus. So thats equals 3200 people right now. Now think that we each have overlapping users so take off 300. Then it's still 2900. That is quite alot of people, when you think about it. That also spams every White country in the world! (36) The media. You don't appear to shy away (but Chris Saunders does). Why not? Are you not afraid that the media may attempt to harm your well-being again such as "Roughcuts" attempted to do by naming your employer? (I won't identify you as answering this, at least not directly, in the report). Only Chris can say why he does ont like the media. I find that we need the media to an extent. Even if they try to get us fired from our jobs, look like idiots on TV etc, we still need the media. They can reach a greater audience then we can at the present time. Until we get get out own media up and running fully we have to use the resources availible to us. I also am not very shy and I do not scare easly. I also am wiling right now to put my life on the line for what I believe in. Most people are not willing to do that. (37) Why did you close down the hotline? Financial? If financial, how did you determine how your finances should be allocated? We decided that because of the great response we were getting via our BBS's and the Internet that our money would be better spent on going the electronic way. We also feel that hotlines are old hat. We can reach npw thoudand of people world wide for only a few pennies a month. We feel that that is money better spent. (38) Here's a silly question. Do you remember that story Bill Dunphy did on hotlines in Toronto? Do you have the reference for it (date?)? If so, what is it? Yes that article was on March 19, 1994. I already sent you my respone to that HACK job by the liar Bill Dunphy. I was very disappointed by that article. I felt quite offended by him lieing like that. (39) Did I miss anything (technologies)? Hmmmmm, well we are right now setting up a WWW site, and we are begining a new mailing camplain with the CPN handbook I sent you. I will be upgrading my computer to a 486 DX4/100 with 16 megs of ram. I also have both lines equipped with with the fastest modems availible. We custom make GIF, TIFF and JPEG graphics files. We also make custom WAV sound files. I have the biggest and most active "Freedom of speech"/"pro-White" BBS in North America. OH yes.. We are also going to be working mroe closer with Don Black of Stormfront BBS with a Mail exchange program. AND in the next two months we are going to join with 10 Swedish BBS in a fido-net type network. We are going to start the first freedom of speech network in Canada. (A mail link between my bbs and PI, maybe a couple of others) If I think of anything else i'll e-mail you either here or on the Internet. PS... Sorry about all the typos but it's 5:30 in the morning and i'm dalm tired! :) Thank you for you time and I hope this is what you need (Sorry it took so long) Marc Lemire DIGITAL FREEDOM SYSOP CANADIAN PATRIOTS NETWORK SPOKEMAN
